The power of the mind
Just a short blog after receiving an e-mail from The Journey
from Brandon Bays
(have a look at www.thejourney.com
if you are interested) about the ubelievable power of the mind.
Over the last two years, if anything, I have experienced how your mind can make or break your life. Negative thoughts and deep convictions and conditionings (by society, religions, parents, etc.) can make your life into hell and completely distort reality. That is why for me the Buddhist path of training and purifying the mind has had (and still has) such a postive effect on my quality of life, but the same can be said for the Taoist 'body-oriented' approach.
Anyway, the article below is the explanation why in spritual books about 'finding the ideal job' or finding 'your soulmate' I have, so far, stopped short when you were asked to 'send out what you wish for'. My fear? Getting what I wish for without knowing (yet) if that is what I really want. I remember the story of the women who wished for a Ferrari. She send out her wish into the universe day after day. And so it happened: one day a red Ferrari crashed into her garage!
So, as they say, be careful what you wish for as you might get what ask.
But how does this work. This wishing is the same as what people who believe in God do when they pray. And then they get what they asked and of course see that as a confirmation as the existence of God. I have another explanation. Thoughts are energy. That energy can be picked up. It is actually something real. As Einstein already discovered mass and energy, or matter and energy are the same (E = m x c x c, E = m times c squared). So if I send out a thought it gets picked up and becomes part of what you could call the 'collective unconscious' [het gemeenschappelijk onderbewustzijn]. As we continuously and inconsciously tap into that collective unconscious we are unconsciously influenced by it.
Carl Jung already explained how symbols are part of the collective unconscious. And many symbols are universal. But if I come from the West and I meditate a lot I might at some stage 'see' images of Jezus. No surprise because that is part of our collective unconscious. At the same time however if someone in Saudi-Arabia meditates he might end up seeing images of Allah.
Of course if we are Christian and believe in God the mind is conditioned and the chance we see images of Jezus or even God increases. The same for a Muslim in the Middle East.
So, read the text below, how can a leaf receive the thoughts of 400 people? Does a leaf has conscious? Not the way we have it, but it is matter and thus energy, so there is no reason why it cannot be influenced by energy send to it. But this experiment is all the more amazing as it is monitored by scientists. More and more science is confirming what the ancient sages (e.g. the Toaists) already knew many centuries ago. Exciting stuff of the mysteries of life!
All the best,
Quote from the e-mail:
"Just a few weeks ago 400 people sat in a conference hall in London for the launch of The Intention Experiment. On the Sunday, March 11th, at 5pm GMT, the audience, as one, started to intend for a leaf to glow and glow. That leaf, by the way, was some 6,000 miles away in a laboratory in Arizona.
The chosen leaf glowed so brightly that the physicists monitoring it were astonished by how luminous it became. Now those remarkable results are soon to be published in a prestigious science journal."
